Decide whether you want to go Google-free

Dumbdroid is available in two variants: one with the Google Play Store and apps, and one without. Both support all standard functionality of the device, such as calls, texting, VoLTE, Bluetooth, and cameras. The Google version works well with all Google apps, including Play Store, Maps, and Messages with RCS support. Some third-party apps may not work due to the lack of Google certification. This includes some, though not all, banking apps. Occasionally, WhatsApp may refuse to log in, but only for some accounts.

In our experience, the full Google variant works great for reducing phone usage. The small screen of Dumbdroid devices means that even with full access to apps, you won't be tempted to watch Youtube or scroll social media.

There are a few advantages of going Google-free, such as better privacy, and improved battery life. If you are confident about the selection of apps that you want on your phone, we recommend giving it a try. The Google-free variant of Dumbdroid comes with Microg for better app compatibility and timely notifications.

The best part about Dumbdroid is that you can always change your decision! Switching between Google and non-Google is as simple as updating your system using our built-in Updater. Just go to Settings->System->Updates->Three dots in the upper right, change your chosen variant, download the update and reboot. All your apps and settings will stay intact!
