Use the keys like a Pro

In addition to offering a regular Android experience through the touchscreen, Dumbdroid phones come with 21 hardware keys that can be used for faster and more convenient navigation.

Basic navigation

While on the home screen, use the D-pad (the two circular buttons under the screen) to navigate around and open apps. While an app or panel is open, use the power/end call button (second in the top-right) to go back home, and press it again to turn of the screen.

The D-pad

The top right button on the keypad is "Back", useful for navigation inside apps.

Press and hold the menu button (top left) to show recent apps, and use the D-pad there to browse and dismiss them (D-pad up).

Phone calls

Making a phone call is as simple as typing in a number while on the home screen, and pressing the call button (second button on the top left). The same button can be used to accept a call, while rejecting or ending a call can be done with the power/reject call button (second on the top right). If your screen turns off during a call and you want to turn it back on, just press any button other than end call.

Accept and reject call buttons

During a phone call, use D-pad up and down to control volume.

Notifications and quick settings

Dumbdroid features a custom notification and quick settings panel. Press the menu button in the top right to access it. Here you can browse notifications using D-pad up and down, dismiss them using D-pad left, and open them using D-pad center.

Pressing menu again will enter quick settings, where you can change volumes, toggle airplane mode or change audio profile. Use D-pad up,down, left and right to navigate and change the settings.

Typing

By default Dumbdroid features an on-screen keyboard. However for a far superior typing experience, activate the TT9 keyboard that you'll find on your home screen. It offers T9-style typing both with and without dictionary support.

Control media playback while the screen is off

While music or other media is playing and the screen is turned off, use the D-pad up/down to control volume, D-pad center to pause and continue, and D-pad left/right to skip tracks. Now try that with an iPhone!
